Explosive Precursors (EP), which are chemicals used to manufacture explosives, such as ammonium nitrate and ammonium perchlorate, and Explosives, meaning finished products like ammunition, explosive devices, and fireworks, are both regulated under the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021 (GEWCA). This law defines licensing requirements for the possession, use, and disposal of regulated chemicals and explosive materials. Due to the industrial risks involved, collection and disposal must be handled with extreme care, on-site, in transit, and during treatment. Beyond compliance, stakeholders should rely on a licensed TIWC with the expertise and technology to ensure safe, effective disposal.

Acceptance
The typical Veolia pre-acceptance process will include, for EP waste, the development of a specific procedure in compliance with our SPF licence.
Coordinated
Planning
As EP waste has to be treated as soon as possible upon its arrival at Veolia’s, the coordination between the waste generator and Veolia is key in collection planning.
Direct
Treatment
Most of the EP waste has to be treated by High Temperature Incineration (HTI) with energy recovery, via automated direct injection systems, avoiding the storage step.
