###
The Challenge

The client produces oil off the coast of Mauritania and generates, regular volumes of sludge that are stored in big-bags before disposal. The client’s production of hazardous and potentially NORM-contaminated wastes (NORM = naturally occurring radioactive material) reached over 250t. They required a high reactivity and strong expertise in segregation and characterisation techniques to assure safe disposal and compliance with environmental regulations.

### Veolia's Solution

#### Integrated offer to ensure safe disposal

Veolia's dedicated company, ASTERALIS, has a high level of expertise at every step of the process - from the waste handling and analysis to the final disposal. State-of-the-art mobile equipment used by highly qualified personnel allowed the characterisation of soils, installations of pipes and tanks, and handling of wastes, sludge, and other samples in a limited time.

### Benefits for our client

- Integrated offer from the detection of the waste nature up to the final disposal and treatment
- Reduced transportation, disposal and treatment costs
- Ensured radioprotection controls and radiological mapping during all steps of operations
